Chin Augmentation/Mentoplasty | Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA

Chin augmentation is one of the fastest growing cosmetic enhancements and is key to obtaining a sculpted jawline. .A well-defined chin helps provide balance to the face and creates definition in one's profile. By augmenting a weak or receding chin, one is able to bring harmony between your facial features, achieving harmonious beauty and balance.

A weak chin or a chin that recedes can draw attention to other features of your face, such as your nose, making it appear larger and more prominent than you like. In fact, the chins relation to the nose is routinely scrutinized during a cosmetic nose surgery or rhinoplasty consult due to its importance in establishing facial balance. Obtaining optimum balance and facial symmetry maximizes the beauty of your lower face, and a gives you a profile that looks "just right".

A weak or out of proportion chin can further contribute to the appearance of a short neck or less than prominent jawline. For individuals with a short neck, a chin implant combined with neck liposculpture can create the appearance of a slimmer, more angled neckline.

The procedure
Mentoplasty, commonly known as chin augmentation is a procedure which uses a specially designed biocompatible soft silicone implant. A small incision either through the mouth or underneath the chin, and a pocket is created. A medical grade biocompatible silicone implant is meticulously placed into the pocket and examined for exact placement. Although a technically straightforward and simple procedure, Dr. Edween's artistry comes in precise placement of the implant, to create a pleasing harmonious profile and prominent jaw angle.

Cheek augmentation/Cheek Lift | Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA

A full face with full defined cheeks characterize youth and beauty.  As we age, time and gravity eventually takes its toll, causing the face loses fat, the cheeks to lose volume and become flat and saggy.  These age related changes give rise to a hollow and sunken-in look. Restoring the appearance of sculpted cheeks can be accomplished through both nonsurgical and surgical techniques that aim at restoring plumpness, volume and definition. To restore volume to the midface and recreate youthful contours, facial plastic surgeon Dr Edween may suggest fillers, fat grafting or facial implants.

Fillers and Injectables
The volume lost with age can be restored by injecting filler products into the cheekbone areas.  The rejuvenated results are visible immediately, providing a viable options for those patients that just do not want to undergo surgery.

Juvederm Voluma XC, known as Voluma, is a hyaluronic acid, or HA for short.  It is the first filler approved by the FDA that is specifically designed to correct age related volume loss in the cheek area.  An advantage that is unique to Voluma is that it can last for about two years.  The longevity of the product is particularly appealing to my patients to don't like returning for frequent refills, states Dr. Edween. There are other fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm, also hyaluronic acids that are work well and also considered safe and effective for this area, however have a varying effects of fill and length of duration.

Fat grafting for Cheek Augmentation
For areas in which a more long lasting solution for fullness is desired, fat can be transferred into that deflated area to restore the volume loss.  The procedure of transferring fat, known as fat grafting, autologous fat transfer, or microfat grafting involves harvesting fat from one area of the body and transfers it to another area to build back natural contours and sculpt the desired shape.  Since the fat is from your own body, it is abundantly available is no chance to allergic rejection.

Typically fat transfer to the cheek area involves the procedure of liposuction to harvest your own fat (usually from the hip or abdomen) and then careful placement of these fat grafts to achieve structure and fullness in your cheek.  There are many variables on how much of the transferred fat will remain permanently, so additional fat transfer procedures may be necessary.  However, once the fat grafts are established, long term cheek fullness can be achieved.

Implants for Cheek Augmentation
Along with fat grafting, cheek implants are another option for either restoring the fullness of youth or can be used to create definition and fullness to the cheek area where bone structure is not as prominent.  The placement of silicone implants, is ideal for someone who wants to add a significant volume, as opposed to a slight increase, to the cheek area to add fullness and create a lifting effect.

The procedure involves a small incision placed inside the mouth.  Dr. Edween will then insert the biocompatible medical grade silicone cheek implant, into the pocket created through the incision.  Obtaining facial balance is crucial and meticulous precision is used to guide the implant into exact placement.
