What Are Injectables and Fillers
As collagen and elastin start breaking down, signs of facial aging emerge in the form of visible nasolabial folds, volume loss and deep facial lines and wrinkles. Injectables refer to products such as the neurotoxin Botox or Dysport, or many a variety of filling agents including your own fat, that can be injected into these areas to help reverse the visible signs of aging.
The beauty of injectable fillers is that they can offer instant results with the downtime of surgical treatments. There is an explosion of new fillers that are being introduced every year, increasing the flexibility to offer many options that keep you looking young.

What Filler is the Best?
There is no easy answer for this question as each filler has different advantages and disadvantages. Many patients misunderstand fillers and sometime confuse them with neurotoxins such as Botox. Neurotoxins such as Botox or Dysport are used medically to treat certain muscular conditions and cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles. Fillers are substances that are injected under the skin or lips to plump up or restore volume to the hollowed facial areas Dr. Edween uses multiple fillers to assist the various problems associated with facial aging.

What is a liquid face lift?
A liquid face lift is a nonsurgical quick fix that literally plumps up lines and erases wrinkles. The "liquid" refers to filler products that are injected into your face to replace volume, fill lines and wrinkles and add contour and definition back to specific areas of the face. This is a nonsurgical injectable treatment that restores the youthful contour back, taking years off your appearance. Note that this procedure is limited to restoring volume, and does not remove or tighten excess skin the way a traditional facelift does.
Is it painful?
Fillers are injected through small needles. Dr. Edween strives to make this procedure as pain free as possible. All patients are first treated with numbing cream on the areas to be injected. Ice is also injected for those that need additional numbing, and even a local anesthetic can be injected prior for those that area really anxious about the pain. To make your experience as painless as possible, she also carries many filler products in which the local anesthetic is already premixed within them, for additional comfort.
How is it done?
The filler is then injected through small needles and then placed into the desired area. The injection procedure takes about 20 minutes, but may take longer depending on areas being filled. All patients should expect some swelling that generally goes down within the first 24-48 hours. It is important that the patients stop medications that make them for susceptible to bruising such as Aspirin, Motrin, and many different herbal medications.
It is important to take into account your social activities when scheduling your treatment.
